USS Hornet

USS Hornet

On April 30, 2011, I went to visit and spend a day on USS Hornet along with my family. We were told that if we went in a room and our faces started getting wet; we had to get out quickly because the air might be toxic. We also did a fire drill that was really weird because we had to pretend that there were sirens flashing and stuff like that. Also, while the little kids were asleep, we got to watch this movie about ghosts. It was pretty cool. In the movie, the searchers were searching for ghosts on a radar screen and they saw a ghost on the radar. They decided to test the ghosts. So, the searchers showed how to light something. Then, the ghosts tried it. At first, the ghost was too shy to do it. So the searchers said they would count to three and the ghost had to light it. 1............2…………..3! The ghost lit it! That was the end of the search.

The USS Hornet participated in World War II. The ship survived! That's why the ship is still there. I can't believe they glued the ship to the ground! Anyways, we went on a flight simulator that made you feel how to ride on a real helicopter. That was real fun, though. I went with 5 scout packs: 546,301,184, and 930. I felt good about going to the Hornet. We went to the USS Hornet's jail. One time, one of the grown-ups accidentally closed the door. We were scared for one second. There were weird steps and when we were going down the steps to the engine room, somebody named Zachary encouraged me to go down and I did it! We also had to go down to these keep out stairs and I thought we would get into trouble. On the ship, there was a museum, and I stayed there until 11:00! On the hornet we visited kitchen, jail (brig), engine room, hanger deck, launching deck and other rooms. They use specific military terms for some common places likes restrooms are called Heads, dinner is called chow, kitchen is called galley, jail is called brig etc. It is very cool to learn and use these works while on the ship.

The next day, I was very tired because I had only fours hours of sleep! That was because I slept late and I woke up early. If I switched the early and late it would have been a good sleep. I had to go to a class in the morning anyways. I was so worn out I had to tell my teacher I was very tired. My teacher was confused, though. She thought I was staying the afternoon. The class is about studying speed math. When I came back, I was so worn out I fell asleep! Then I ate dinner and then I slept. I felt good about going to the HORNET.

THE END!!!
